Conductor



Guðmundur Óli Gunnarssonhas been the resident conductor of the SN from the time of its foundation.

Guðmundur Óli studied at the Kópivogur Music School and the Reykjavík College of Music. He then continued his music education in Holland at the Utrecht Conservatory, where he qualified as a conductor. He also went on to further studies under the tuition of Jorma Panula in Helsinki and participated in several courses in conducting. Guðmundur Óli has conducted the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra, both in concerts and during recording sessions. He has conducted the Reykjavík Chamber Orchestra, The Icelandic Orchestra and is the resident conductor of the CAPUT ensemble. Guðmundur Óli has travelled widely with CAPUT, both at home and abroad. He has worked with recordings for both radio and CDs in Iceland and overseas. Guðmundur Óli has also conducted many first performances of works by a variety of composers, as well as conducting operatic productions, choral performances and performances by student and amateur orchestras.
