The autumn of 2006 saw the commencement of the North Iceland Symphony Orchestra’s 14th season
The North Iceland Symphony Orchestra School Concerts
The North Iceland Symphony Orchestra School Concerts commenced on 9th October in the Glerá Church Hall where pupils of Glerá Elementary School were invited to listen to the concert. On 10th and 11th October it was the turn of Giljaskóli and Síðuskóli to listen to this year's programme which comprises the story of the Nightingale by H. C. Andersen to the music by Dutch composer Theo Loevendie. The work is composed for 7 musicians; narrator Aðalsteinn Bergdal, actor; conductor, Guðmundur Óli Gunnarsson. Besides the concerts held in Akureyri itself, the orchestra travelled to schools all the way from Ólafsfjörður to Raufarhöfn. The Nightingale was also performed at the Family Concert, Saturday 18 November at 14:00 in the Akureyri Theatre. Admission free.
Saturday 9th December, the SN in cooperation with the Þór Sports Club, held an Advent Festival in the Akureyri Sports Stadium. The programme commenced with a concert of music for Christmas and Avent played by the Symphony Orchestra and featuring the Dalvík Male Voice Choir; soloists, Hulda Björk Garðarsdóttir and Ólafur Kjartan Sigurðarson. At the close of the concert, a Christmas buffet was on offer. Catering by the Bautinn restaurant.
Tuesday 6th February the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra visited Akureyri. This concert was held in the Síðuskóli Sports Stadium.

On Sunday 4th March a concert of music for string orchestra was held in Akureyri Church in cooperation with the Akureyri Music School. Solo violinist, Lára Sóley Jóhannsdóttir
On Thursday 5th April, Maundy Thursday, a concert was held in Glerá Church.
On the programme was:
Concerto for Violin and Orchestra by Max Bruch, featuring Ari Þór Vilhjálmsson, violinist.
Symphony No. 5 by L. van Beethoven.
On Sunday 6th May a concert was held in cooperation with the Church Arts Week
Programme:
Symphony No. 1 for Organ and Orchestra by F. A. Guilmant
Te Deum by A. Dvorak
The Mývatn Choral Festival: on 10th June a concert was held in the Reykjahlíð Sports Stadium.
Among other items on the programme were Requiem by John Rutter.
